Winterling cover!

Here it is! The cover for my next book, coming from HarperCollins Children’s on January 3, 2012. Let me know what you think of it!

Cover art by Jason Chan.

And here’s the flap copy:

With her boundless curiosity and wild spirit, Fer has always felt that she doesn’t belong. Not when the forest is calling to her, when the rush of wind through branches feels more real than school or the quiet farms near her house. Then she saves an injured creature—he looks like a boy, but he’s really something else. He knows who Fer truly is, and invites her through the Way, a passage to a strange, dangerous land.

Fer feels an instant attachment to this realm, where magic is real and oaths forge bonds stronger than iron. But a powerful huntress named the Mor rules here, and Fer can sense that the land is perilously out of balance. Fer must unlock the secrets about the parents she never knew and claim her true place before the worlds on both sides of the Way descend into endless winter.

Sarah Prineas captivates in this fantasy-adventure about a girl who must find within herself the power to set right a terrible evil.

Blue Heaven

I spent last week at a writing workshop on an island in Ohio.  Great friends, great conversation, lots of long walks and long talks.  Also it rained almost the whole time.  At the beginning of the week we looked like the top picture:

And at the end of the week we looked like the bottom picture:

As you can see, it was a blast.  I came out of it with renewed friendships and great critiques of my next-next book, The Summerkin, and a brand-new book idea that I’m already starting to chip away at.  My good buddy Charlie’s website describes how the workshop works.

In the picture, L to R: Jenn Reese, Charlie Finlay, Cassie Alexander, Paolo Bacigalupi, Greg van Eekhout, Rae Carson, me, Paul Melko, Sandra McDonald, Christopher Barzak, Tobias Buckell, and Deb Coates.

Contest: win an ARC–an advanced copy!!

a novel by Greg van Eekhout

So here’s the deal.  You–yes, you!–can win an ARC of this novel, The Boy at the End of the World by Greg van Eekhout.  It’s a terrific book.  I even wrote a blurb about it:

“Greg van Eekhout’s The Boy at the End of the World is both moving and full of adventure.  This remarkable survival story will change the way readers think about themselves and the world they live in.”

All you have to do to enter is pick a number between 1 and 209 and post it in the comments.  I’ll respond with a line from that page in the book.  When we’re all done (in one week from today, April 11), I’ll do a random number generator thingy and that person will be the winner.  Be sure to include your email when you leave your comment so I can contact you if you win.

Come back and read all the comments, and you’ll get some awesome sneak peeks of the book!

Good luck!
